A graduate of Harvard University and the American Film Institute (AFI), Akis has lensed more than 20 feature films and 100 scripted/unscripted projects. He began his career serving as a 2nd Unit DP for Oscar nominated cinematographer, Phedon Papamichael, ASC. Over the past 12 years, Akis has worked all over the US and around the world, having shot films in Greece, Bulgaria, Israel and Costa Rica.

Feature credits include the period romantic drama RUNNING FOR GRACE (“masterfully photographed by Akis” – Variety); LIGHT FALLS, a thriller set on the Mediterranean coast directed by Phedon Papamichael, ASC; SHUT IN, for blockbuster director DJ Caruso and LATE BLOOMER, Kevin Pollak’s directorial debut.

Most recently, Akis lensed JESUS REVOLUTION for Lionsgate, as well as, Aitch Alberto’s ARISTOTLE AND DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE, produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda and 3pas Studios, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In addition to his feature work, Akis has photographed a variety of international commercials and music videos for such prominent clients as: Cher, Paul Mitchell, Samsung, Anabel Englund, National Bank of Greece, FX, HBO.

Akis is an active member of the International Cinematographer’s Guild (ICG) and the honorary Greek Society of Cinematographers (GSC). He resides in Los Angeles and is represented worldwide by Zero Gravity.
