Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Akis Konstantakopoulos moved to the US at the age of 18 to pursue his dreams of becoming a filmmaker. A graduate of Harvard University and the American Film Institute (AFI Cinematography), Akis brings a painterly sensibility to the camera, grounded in classical composition and emotional storytelling.

Akis’s work spans over 20 features and 100+ scripted/unscripted projects. Feature film credits include: ARISTOTLE AND DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE, for executive producer Lin-Manuel Miranda – world premiere at TIFF ’22 (“striking cinematography; plainly lovely to look at” — Hollywood Reporter); JESUS REVOLUTION, for director Jon Erwin and Lionsgate, a #2 at the box office for multiple weeks; SHUT-IN for blockbuster director DJ Caruso; LIGHT FALLS, for Oscar-nominated Phedon Papamichael, ASC (world premiere Camerimage ’23); and RUNNING FOR GRACE, starring Jim Caviezel and Matt Dillon (“masterfully photographed by Akis” — Variety).

On the TV front, Akis has photographed all 6 Seasons of the award-winning global phenomenon show, THE CHOSEN, for Amazon Studios. THE CHOSEN is the first show to be translated to over 80 languages and to be distributed theatrically around the world, amassing +$120 million at the box office. Season 5 recently premiered at the #1 spot on Amazon Prime.

His commercial and music video clients include: Cher, The Lumineers, Paul Mitchell, Samsung, National Bank of Greece, FX, and HBO. Akis has been the exclusive lighting designer and cinematographer for all Cher’s projects for the last 9 years.

Born into a culture rich with metaphor and spiritual tradition, Akis aims to bring a unique visual intuition to each project. He is a member of the honorary Greek Society of Cinematographers (GSC) and is represented worldwide by Zero Gravity Management. When not on set, he can be found cooking, enjoying a nice bottle of wine, or playing tennis.
